| Think long term. Hopefully you will have many years with your new family member. Do you really want to be calling your 12 year old dog "Puppy" or "Stinky" Your tastes might change. "Capt\'n Jean Luc" might sound like a great name now, but what about 10 years from now, are you still going to be a Trekkie? If you have other pets make sure you come up with a name that doesn\'t sound like the others, so each pet will know their own. Also try not to name your pet the same as commands, like "No" and "Joe". Pets respond best to 1-2 syllable names. Find a name that has special meaning. Make a list of names and try a few of them out for a while and see which one works. Watch to see how acts and find a name that works with their personality. If you are adopting a pet already with a name it is best to stay with the name he or she knows. | Rascal from Washington Share your dog's picture. |
